Students of National Public School, Bangalore learn about Organ Donation

  • Mr. Nachiket Rao, a Grade XI student of National Public School in HSR Layout, Bangalore organized an online awareness session on organ donation for his fellow classmates, their parents and teachers. MOHAN Foundation was invited to talk on the subject and the event took place on 26th September 2020.

    Transplant Coordinators, Mrs. Hemavathi, Mr. Marulappa LN and Mrs. Sheetal Mundada along with Mrs. Ranjini Shankar M S, Project Manager of MOHAN Foundation participated in the session to interact with the audience.

    The following topics were discussed in detail:

    • Brain stem death
    • Circulatory death
    • Jeevasarthakathe and its role
    • Organ allocation system in Karnataka
    • The burden of organ failure and need for organ donation
    • Importance of a donor card
    • MOHAN Foundation’s work    

    A video of a donor family talking about the importance and nobleness of organ donation was played for the audience.

    During the interaction, the audience raised the following questions:

    • How do hospitals ensure organ compatibility?
    • Are there any legal hassles in the donation process?
    • How are organs persevered when being transported?
    • Green corridor
    • Does my age/fitness level disqualify me from being a donor?
    • Difference between coma and brain death

    Around 37 people attended the session, positively responded to the talk and appreciated the Foundation’s work towards the cause.
