On January 8, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur conducted an organ donation awareness session at the NSS Camp of G.S. College of Commerce and Economics, Nagpur at Yerla with the objective of educating students about the significance of organ donation.
The session was facilitated by Ms. Veena Wathore, who began by introducing the work and vision of MOHAN Foundation, highlighting its commitment to promoting organ donation and strengthening public awareness across the country. She assessed the participants’ basic understanding of organ donation and explained the difference between living donation and deceased donation, the legal framework, the family consent process, and the role of the Authorization Committee in cases of living organ donation.
Participants were introduced to the concepts of cardiac death and brain stem death. Ms. Veena explained brain stem death, its causes, and the organs and tissues that can be retrieved in such situations. The session remained highly interactive, with students asking several practical questions such as
MS Veena addressed each query in detail and shared real-life stories to enhance the students’ understanding.
Following this, Ms. Neha took the lead in explaining how to take a pledge for organ donation and its importance. She clarified common myths by sharing facts and explained the step-by-step procedure for pledging both online and offline, guiding the students through the process. Out of the 65 participants, 22 students took the pledge for organ donation, demonstrating strong motivation and interest in supporting the cause.
The program received continuous support from Dr. Praveen Mustoor (Principal), Ms. Veena Chavhan (NSS Coordinator), Mr. Kamlesh Thote (Faculty) and Ms. Tanu Ekalkar (Faculty), whose coordination and presence played an important role in the smooth conduct of the event.
Overall, it was an engaging and insightful awareness program, marked by active participation and a positive response from the attendees, reflecting their willingness to support the noble cause of organ donation.
