Signature Campaign to Celebrate National Organ Donation Day

  • MOHAN Foundation organized a signature campaign for the celebration of National Organ Donation Day which falls on 27th November.  The campaign ran from 4th to 11th December 2014 at different spots with the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH). The main aim of the programme was to sensitize the general public and the hospital staff about the importance of organ donation and to break their myths about the concept.

     

    The Signature Campaign was started by Dr. Vimala, Dean RGGGH, followed by RMO and ARMOs who signed on  a banner designed for the occasion. The Banner was displayed at various departments in RGGGH. The general public, medical and non medical staff participated in the signature campaign after understanding the concept and the importance of organ donation. Following are the places where signature campaign was organized;

    ®    Tower I and Dean Office

    ®    Tower II and Anesthesia Department

    ®    Nephrology

    ®    Neurology

    ®    Cardiology

    ®    Outpatient Block

    ®    Post out

    ®    Dialysis unit

    ®    At the entrance of RGGGH

     

    On the day one Mr.Parkash Transplant coordinator gave an organ donation awareness talk at Cadaver Transplant Programme office for the NCC students from Bhaktavatsalam Memorial College for women, Korattur on the concept of organ donation at the end of the session nearly 40 NCC students expressed their support through signing  the banner and taking the donor card.

     

    On day two MSW Students from Madras Christian College participated in the campaign and motivated nearly 160 general public to take part in the campaign. The highlight of the event was the support given by the general public and many of them voluntarily got involved in the event and motivated their friends and family to join the campaign. 

     

    The campaign was very useful to build rapport with the Doctors, Staff Nurses, Technicians, Recipients and their family members, dialysis patients and workers in the hospital and also to wipe out the myths prevailing among the general public.

     

    On the last day the auto drivers participated in campaign and supported the cause. We also requested them to display the Organ Donation Toll Free Number in their auto to spread awareness.

     

    The immediate impact of the campaign was requests from Staff  Nurses from General ward and Operation theater technicians  for  sessions on the concept and process of organ donation. Nearly 1000 members showed their interest and support through taking part in the Signature Campaign.
