On June 19, 2026, at KTCON 2026, held in Nadiad, Ms. Jaya Jairam, Project Director, MOHAN Foundation Mumbai, delivered a session on Grief Counselling in Organ Donation to an audience of nearly 300 urologists from across India.
The session emphasized the pivotal role of compassionate and effective communication with families of potential organ donors, particularly during moments of profound loss, and how sensitive counselling can help families make informed decisions about organ donation.
Drawing upon MOHAN Foundation's extensive experience in grief counselling and organ donation advocacy, Ms. Jairam discussed the principles of empathetic communication, building trust with bereaved families, addressing common concerns and misconceptions, and respecting cultural and emotional sensitivities. She highlighted that successful organ donation programmes depend not only on clinical expertise but also on the ability of healthcare professionals to engage with families in a respectful, ethical, and compassionate manner.
The session generated considerable interest, with participants actively discussing real-life scenarios, communication challenges, and best practices in counselling families for organ donation.
