Workshop for Nursing Students at SRM College of Nursing, Kattankulathur

  • MOHAN Foundation in association with SRM College of Nursing, Kattankulathur organized a half day workshop for the final year nursing students on 12th December 2014. About 60 students participated in the workshop.

     

    The workshop started with a session on “Brain Death – Identification, certification; Maintenance of a potential organ donor” by Dr. Rajasekhar Perumalla, Liver Transplant Surgeon, SRM Institutes for Medical Science (SIMS).

     

    Mr. Jeyabal, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation presented a session on “Concepts of Organ Donation”. Types of organ donation, concept of brain death, organ and tissue donation after brain death, concept of donor card, myths and misconceptions about organ donation, Transplantation of Human Organs Act were discussed during the session.

     

    Following that Ms. Sujatha Niranjan, MOHAN Foundation spoke on “Transplant Coordinator - As a Profession”. She portrayed the important role played by transplant coordinators in saving the lives. She also spoke on the Transplant Coordinators’ Training Program run by MOHAN Foundation.

     

    Ms. Mageshwari, Staff Nurse, SRM institutes  for Medical Science (SIMS) shared her feedback about the Transplant Coordinators’ Training Program that she underwent recently with MOHAN Foundation. She also shared her experience as a nurse with deceased donor families.   

     

    A few students showed their interest to join Transplant Coordinators’ Training program. 38 students took a pledge to be an organ donor and signed a donor card.
