Senthil Public School, Salem introduces a noble cause to its students

  • On 28th November 2014, Senthil Public School, Salem initiated an awareness programme on Organ Donation. Mrs. Vimala Vijayan, staff in-charge invited MOHAN Foundation to give an awareness talk on Organ Donation. Since the school is going to conduct Science Expo and they wanted to promote the new concept in their programme. So Mr. Prakash K. Transplant Coordinator from MOHAN Foundation facilitated the programme.

     

    The programme began with a welcome address by Mrs. Vimala Vijayan explained the importance of event and mainly the formation Peer Educators in the school then the transplant coordinator spoke about the concepts of Organ Donation.

     

    The following topics were covered during the talk:

    • Activities of MOHAN Foundation
    • Types of Organ Donation - Live and Deceased Donation
    • Difference between Brain death and Coma
    • Importance of Donor card
    • Tissues and organs  that can be donated
    • The  Peer Educators  program

     

    After the programme 20 selected students from Class 8th to 11th participated in an training session and the concept of Peer Educators their role was explained to the children. They were given tips  and more explanation on the concepts – so that they could become Peer Educators.  All their questions were answered. They were trained to make their own presentation. The Science Expo will be conducted on 19th & 20th December 2014.
