Organ donation awareness session for Senior citizens at Prashik Association, Nalanda Nagar Nagpur

  • On 31 May 2023. Dr Barsagade, HOD Anaesthesia (GMCH) Mr Shyam Panjala social service superintendent, (GMCH) and Ms Bhagyashree Nighot was invited by Prashik senior citizens association, Nalanda Nagar Nagpur, to conduct an awareness session on organ donation and body donation.  Dr. Barsagade explained about clinical aspects of the organ donation such as what is brain dead, what  is GCS level, and shared their experience how they treat patients.

    Then Mr. Shyam Panjala explained about Role of social worker and Transplant coordinator while doing case of organ donation and Tissue donation. Then  Ms Bhagyashree has explained further points -

    • Body donation                 
    • Types of death, and what can be donated  in each type;             
    • How to pledge organ,       
    • How to pledge for body donation, what are the conditions.                                        
    • Importance of pledging.

    The participants raised a few queries such as -                      

    • How does one take the pledge if they wish to be an organ donor? 
    • How to pledge for body donation                                        
    • Time for body donation after death. 
    • Which organ can be donated when you are alive 
    • Can we donate the organs of jaundice patient

    Flyers of basic information with regards to organ donation were distributed to all. Near about 40 peoples were present for the awareness session. 10-12 participants steps forth and committed to pledge their organs and body.
