Organ Donation Awareness for the Staffs of Cloudnine Hospitals

  • Mrs. Rosli Melita invited MOHAN Foundation to conduct an interactive session on organ donation for the employees of Cloudnine Hospitals. The event, which took place virtually on the 10th November 2020 for one hour, was attended by around 100 employees, including doctors from the North and South regions of the hospital group.

    MOHAN Foundation was represented by Mrs. Hemavathi and Mr. Marulappa L. N. Transplant Coordinators, and Mrs. Ranjini Shankar M S, Project Manager.

    The following topics were discussed in detail:

    • Introduction about MOHAN Foundation
    • Brain stem death
    • Circulatory death
    • Jeevasarthakathe and its role
    • Organ allocation system in Karnataka
    • The burden of organ failure and the need for organ donation
    • Importance of a donor card

    During the interaction, the audience raised the following questions:

    • How do hospitals ensure organ compatibility?
    • How are organs preserved when being transported?
    • Green corridor
    • Does my age/fitness level disqualify me from being a donor?
    • Distribution of the organs
    • Can people with diabetes be donors?
    • Organ commerce
    • Can patients with communicable diseases be donors?
    • Can COVID positive patients be donors?
