Organ Donation Awareness during Kannada Rajyotsava Day Celebrations

  • On 1st November 2020, on the occasion of the Kannada Rajyotsava Day, the team from MOHAN Foundation Bangalore setup up a stall and delivered an awareness talk during a celebratory event at Brigade Road in the city. Mr. Gowrishankar, the organizer of the event had reached out Mr. Shridhar Hanchinal, the Honorary Director of the Foundation who took the initiative.

    The talk by Mrs. Ranjini Shankar, Project Manager lasted for 30 minutes, while the stall managed by Mrs. Hemavathi B N (Transplant Coordinator), Mr. Junaid and Mr. Noel (Student Interns from Mangalore) was put up for the entire day.

    Mrs. Ranjini initiated the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation and its work to the audience, role of Transplant Coordinators and carried forward the session with the concepts of organ donation and brain stem death and also explained about circulatory death, organ allocation system in Karnataka, importance of donor card, Jeevasarthakathe and legalities in organ donation and transplantation.

    During the interaction, the audience raised questions about the following:

    • Consent Forms
    • Green Corridor
    • Criteria to be a donor
    • Brain Stem Death Certification Process

    Around 30 people attended the session and 10 of them signed up to be organ donors.
