Organ Donation Awareness for Nursing Students of NIMS Nursing College, Trivandrum

• An awareness session on organ donation was conducted for the students of NIMS College of Nursing on 5^th August 2021 at Neyyantikara, Trivandrum. 15 students in their fourth year attended the session. Ms Kavitha Aneesh, Transplant Coordinator was the speaker, and the following topics were covered:

  • Organ donation and transplantation  
  • Brief explanation on brain death
  • Protocols to be followed in case of RTA received in the emergency unit
  • Identification and certification of brain death
  • Donor maintenance
  • Organ Sharing (KNOS)
  • Organ Retrieval
  • Pledging for Organ Donation
  • Role of a Nurse and Transplant Coordinator

  The session ended with a motivational story, link for signing up as organ donor and helpline number, being shared with the audience.
