Organ Donation Awareness at a Health Sciences Institute in Nagpur

  • On 26th October 2018, Dr. Ravi Wankhede Director of MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur invited by Mr. Anant Shinde, Center Head of Virohan Institute of Health and Management Sciences, Trimurti Nagar, Nagpur. Virohan Institute provides courses for different domains in Healthcare like Allied Health, Corporate Training (ACLS, BLS, Basic First Aid with CPR) and Refresher Training for hospital employees.

    Dr. Wankhede explained organ donation and transplantation concepts through a PowerPoint presentation which included the following topics:

    • What is MOHAN Foundation?
    • Who can donate organs?
    • What tissues and organs can be donated?
    • How does organ donation help patients with organ failure?
    • What is brain death?
    • How brain-dead patients could donate as many as 32 organs and tissues
    • Transplantation of Human Organs Act 1994
    • How death can be a life saver to people with organ failure
    • How Nagpur is aware of organ donation and contribution of MOHAN foundation towards it

    He requested the audience to use help line number and MOHAN Foundation website to gain in-depth insights. The participants had the following questions;

    • Following natural death what organs and tissues could be donated?
    • After brain death what is the time duration for organ donation?

    Approximately 30 students were present at the session. At the end of the session Mr. Anant Shinde thanked Dr. Wankhede and the participants.
