Organ Donation Awareness at Super Specialty Hospital, Nagpur

  • On 7th August 2020, Super Specialty Hospital in Nagpur, invited MOHAN Foundation to speak about organ donation to the outpatients. Dr. Milind Phulpatil, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) set a stall where MOHAN Foundation displayed information brochures, donor cards, standees and a banner.   Mr. Bulu Behera, Transplant Coordinators manned the stall.

    Mr. Behera gave information given to outpatients on the following:

    • Types of deaths
    • Organs that can be donated after brain death, after natural death and while living
    • How to register and where is the waitlist of organ failure patients available
    • Who can donate organs and the value of a donor card
    • MOHAN Foundation’s activities
    • Helpline number & MOHAN Foundation website

    Around 39 patients visited the stall. After understanding about organ donation, 10 patients picked up consent forms and 3 patients signed consent form and took donor card. The others promised to sign consent forms after discussing with their families

     

    Questions asked by visitors:

    1) How much would a liver transplant cost and where to get it done?

    2) Is there any commercial dealing in blood donation?

    3) Is blood group match mandatory for eye transplants?
