Organ Donation Awareness at Super Specialty Hospital, Nagpur

On 7th August 2020, Super Specialty Hospital in Nagpur, invited MOHAN Foundation to speak about organ donation to the outpatients. Dr. Milind Phulpatil, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) set a stall where MOHAN Foundation displayed information brochures, donor cards, standees and a banner.   Mr. Bulu Behera, Transplant Coordinators manned the stall.

Mr. Behera gave information given to outpatients on the following:

  • Types of deaths
  • Organs that can be donated after brain death, after natural death and while living
  • How to register and where is the waitlist of organ failure patients available
  • Who can donate organs and the value of a donor card
  • MOHAN Foundation’s activities
  • Helpline number & MOHAN Foundation website

Around 39 patients visited the stall. After understanding about organ donation, 10 patients picked up consent forms and 3 patients signed consent form and took donor card. The others promised to sign consent forms after discussing with their families

 

Questions asked by visitors:

1) How much would a liver transplant cost and where to get it done?

2) Is there any commercial dealing in blood donation?

3) Is blood group match mandatory for eye transplants?
