Organ Donation Awareness at NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur

  • On October 8th 2019, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Dr. Deepali Onkar of the Anatomy Department of NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences and Lata Mangeshkar Hospital in Digdoh Hills, Nagpur to conduct an awareness programme on organ donation. Dr. Ravi Wankhede, Director of MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur was invited as a speaker for the event.

    Dr. Suresh Chari, the Director of Research &Medical Education at Lata Mangeshkar Hospital delivered the welcome address. The program began by11.00 AM and around 120 participants were present. Dr. Ravi Wankhede in his talk introduced MOHAN Foundation and explained about organ and tissue donation in detail.

    Dr. Wankhede made an elaborate presentation on the subject, covering a wide range of topics. He explained the Transplantation of Human Organs Act which included the offences and penalties related the malpractices in organ donation as well.

    The following topics were discussed in detail:

    • What is organ failure and its causes?
    • Who can donate organs?
    • When can organs be donated?
    • What is living donation?
    • What is natural death and brain death?
    • What is brain death and coma?
    • Age criteria to donate organs.
    • What is the time duration for organ donation?
    • Myths and misconceptions around organ donation.
    • How to register as an organ donor?

     

    All their doubts were clarified by Dr. Ravi Wankhede. Six participants registered as organ donors and received their donor cards and the program came to an end at 1 PM. MOHAN Foundation is thankful for the opportunity.
