On August 6, 2025, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, an Organ Donation Ambassador with MOHAN Foundation, conducted an awareness session on organ donation for students at Holy Spirit Institute, Margao, Goa.
He began with a thought-provoking question: Can a person who passes away at home become an organ donor? Most students responded “yes.” Mr. Pereira clarified that while organ donation is not possible in such cases, tissue donation—such as skin, eyes, and in some instances the whole body—remains a viable option.
Encouraging the students to take the conversation beyond the classroom, he urged them to inspire their families and friends to support this life-saving cause.
Through a detailed PowerPoint presentation, Mr. Pereira introduced MOHAN Foundation and its work in India and abroad. He covered:
• The concepts of circulatory and brain-stem death
• The process of organ and tissue donation
• Organ allocation procedures
• Green corridors for organ transport
• How to obtain a donor card
The session was attended by approximately 80 students. Flyers with answers to frequently asked questions about organ donation were distributed to all participants.
Informative videos explaining brain death and a testimony from Ms. Shreya Siddanagowder were shown. Mr. Pereira also shared the trailer for the film Aye Zindagi on YouTube to illustrate the transformative impact of organ donation.
He concluded by expressing his gratitude to Principal Mrs. Esmeralda Fernandes for facilitating the session and supporting the cause.
