Awareness Session Conducted at Health Check- up Camp at Ashtavinayak Hall, Nerul, Navi Mumbai

  • On August 3, 2025, an organ donation awareness session was organized on the occasion of World Organ Donation Day at Nerul, Navi Mumbai targeting the general public. An awareness  session was conducted at the general health check up camp with the support of Adv Nirant Patil. A Total of 40 participants along with Apollo staff, volunteers of VSTI College and organizers attended the session.

    The session began with an introduction on MOHAN Foundation by Ms Sakshi Khirsagar. She introduced the activities run by the foundation.

    She began the talk explaining the meaning of Organ Donation engaging the participants actively. Questions were raised from the participants such as:

    1)      Do you know what organ donation is?

    2)      Who can donate the organs?

    She defined organ donation very clearly. Later, she explained about living and deceased donations, consent of the family, what can be donated in living donations. She clarified about who can be a donor in living organ donation. Also, Ms Sakshi gave insights on how liver can regrow itself after its being donated to the recepient.

    She also introduced participants about cardiac death and Brain stem death. She explained how cardiac death occurs. She cleared all the tissues that can be donated under cardiac death. She also emphasized on the storage and retrieval process of the tissues. Later she elaborated more on brain stem death. Ms Sakshi ensured the participants asking various questions on their understanding of Brain stem Death. She explained what causes brain stem death.  She informed the organs and tissues that can be donated, process of donation, green corridor and family consent. 

    Mrs. Rajeshree Chandankar discussed on myths and facts on organ donation. She discussed what prominent myths prevalent in the society are and the facts associated.  The talk was ended with the importance of pledge, informing family about the pledge, how one can pledge and save lives.

    It was an engaging session attended carefully by the participants. The session was highly interactive with participants raising questions on how the organ donation procedure is done. Participants present were keen to read the flyers of MOHAN foundation distributed by Mrs. Rajeshree

    The team of foundation was also given a stall at the medical camp. People visited the stall and enquired about the organ donation process.
