  • On the occasion of Fire Service Week 2025, MOHAN Foundation conducted an Organ Donation Awareness Talk on April 17, 2025 at the Fire Station in Belapur, Navi Mumbai.

The session was facilitated by Ms. Prarthana, Public Education Counselor, and was attended by 13 staff members of the fire station. The objective of the talk was to educate frontline fire safety personnel about the significance of organ and tissue donation and encourage them to become ambassadors of this noble cause within their communities.

During the session, Ms. Prarthana covered essential topics such as the difference between brain death and circulatory death, Shared information on types of donations – living, deceased, Organ and tissue donations .The process of pledging, and common myths and misconceptions surrounding organ donation.

The session was highly interactive, with active participation from the attendees. Notably, two important questions were raised during the Q&A segment. One participant inquired whether burn patients can donate their corneas or if there have been such cases in the past. It was explained that corneal donation may be possible if the eyes remain unaffected by burns, though in cases of extensive facial burns, donation may not be feasible. Another question addressed the contraindications for body donation. Ms. Prarthana clarified that body donation may be declined in cases involving infectious diseases (like HIV, Hepatitis B/C), advanced decomposition, severe trauma, or medico-legal complications. The acceptance of the body is ultimately determined by the receiving medical institution.

MOHAN Foundation extends sincere thanks to Mr. Pramod Patil, Fire Station Officer, Belapur, for organizing the session and supporting the cause of organ donation. His initiative in incorporating this talk as a part of Fire Service Week 2025 is truly appreciated and highlights the fire department’s commitment to promoting health and social responsibility.
