Organ Donation Awareness Talk at Bakthavatchalam College, Chennai

  • On 30th June 2025,  Ms Archita  Manikantha, Intern from NMIMS, Hyderabad and Organ Donation Ambassador conducted an online public awareness session on the topic of organ donation for the students of Bakthavatchalam College, Chennai. The session was organised as a part of the college’s social awareness initiatives and aimed to sensitise young individuals about the importance of organ donation, its legal provisions, and the myths surrounding it. The program witnessed active participation from 16 students.

    The session covered essential aspects such as the concept of brain death, types of organ donation, donor eligibility criteria, the process of pledging organs, and the legal framework governing organ donation in India. Ms Archita also highlighted the role of initiatives like the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA) and introduced the students to the concept of Advance Medical Directives (AMDs) in end-of-life care. An interactive Q & A session was held towards the end, where students actively raised queries about the procedure, consent, and myths about organ donation, reflecting a keen interest in the subject.

    The participants expressed their appreciation for the session and its relevance in contemporary healthcare conversations. MOHAN Foundation appreciates the support of Bakthavatchalam College, Chennai for this awareness.
