MOHAN Foundation had the opportunity to organize an organ donation awareness program on May 6, 2025, at the Sri Ramachandra Faculty of Nursing. The event drew close to 100 nursing students, who came together with great interest to learn more about the importance and impact of organ donation.
The session opened with an informative and engaging talk by Mrs. Kavitha, who introduced the fundamental concepts of organ and tissue donation. She explained the eligibility criteria for donors, the types of organs and tissues that can be donated, the appropriate timing for donation, and how the process takes place. Her session also emphasized the life-saving potential and societal value of organ donation.
She went on to discuss the concept of brain death and explained the procedures related to both organ and tissue donation. A short but impactful video was shown to clarify the concept of brain death and to highlight the need for grief counselling for families during such sensitive times.
To further enrich the learning experience, Dr. Hemal Kanvinde facilitated an activity-based session titled 10-Step Protocol for a Successful Deceased Organ Donation. This hands-on session actively involved students and helped them grasp the structured sequence of steps involved in the organ retrieval and donation process.
Afterward, Mrs. Kavitha spoke about the training opportunities provided by MOHAN Foundation, including how to register for them and the pivotal role played by transplant coordinators in facilitating organ donation and transplantation.
As part of the program, students performed a role play focusing on grief counselling. Their performance effectively conveyed the emotional and psychological aspects of organ donation and the importance of providing empathetic support to grieving families.
The seminar ended with a vote of thanks delivered by a faculty member, who expressed sincere appreciation to the MOHAN Foundation team for their valuable contribution. In recognition of the event, Dr. Hemal Kanvinde presented the Principal with the 50th edition of Indian Transplant Newsletter.
MOHAN Foundation extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. S. J. Nalini, Principal of Sri Ramachandra Faculty of Nursing, for facilitating this seminar and Dr Ramesh and Ms Joan Freeda for their enthusiastic support in making this awareness program a success.
