On March 28, 2026, Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator (Northeast) and Project Lead (Manipur), was invited as a faculty at the Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program on Brain Stem Death Certification at Shija Hospital and Research Institute Pvt. Ltd. (SHRI), Langol.
The event commenced with opening remarks by Ms. Anisha Khungdongbam, Deputy Director – Finance & Operations and Nodal Officer for Organ Donation and Transplantation at SHRI. The session was chaired by Dr. Sanasam Sarat Singh, Head of the Department of Anaesthesiology, who guided the proceedings and set the tone for the program. The program provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and capacity building on the critical topic of brain stem death certification, further strengthening collaborative efforts in the field of organ donation and transplantation.
Continuing the session, Ms. Laishram Monica Devi delivered an insightful talk on “Documentation & Counselling Requirements as per Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOA) Rules”, providing a detailed explanation of the various documentation processes and forms involved in organ donation while emphasizing their importance in ensuring transparency and legal compliance. She also highlighted how compassionate end-of-life care and empathetic communication with families can significantly improve consent rates, drawing from her personal experiences of counselling grieving families and working closely with donor families. She poignantly described the emotional journey from grief to hope, underscoring the profound moments when families find solace in knowing that their loved one has helped save other lives.
Ms. Monica, along with other faculty members, also participated in an interactive question-and-answer session, where they addressed queries and clarified doubts raised by the participants, making the session engaging and informative.
Dr. Palin Khundongbam, Chairman and Managing Director of Shija Hospital and Research Institute Pvt. Ltd. (SHRI), emphasized the significance of organizing such a program and appreciated the support extended by MOHAN Foundation in strengthening the deceased organ donation program in Manipur.
Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, along with Program Executives Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi and Mr. Elangbam Paringnaba Singh, also participated in the event on behalf of MOHAN Foundation.
The event generated strong enthusiasm among participants, with around 110 consultants, nurses, technicians, and medical social workers gaining valuable insights. It concluded with notable interest from Registered Medical Officers, Junior Residents, and the Nursing Superintendent of SHRI in enrolling in the Post Graduate Diploma in Transplant Coordination and Grief Counselling.
