On August 11, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, in association with Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) Pvt. Ltd., Langol, Imphal West, Manipur, conducted an awareness session on organ donation at the Outpatient Department (OPD), North Block. The session was facilitated by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator, Northeast cum Project Lead, Manipur, along with Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, and Mrs. Thaudem Mayarani Devi, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Haobam Gunaremba Singh, Transplant Coordinator, and Ms. Sweety Moirangthem, Assistant Transplant Coordinator, SHRI.
Opening the session, Mr. Gunaremba introduced the concept of organ donation and highlighted SHRI’s initiatives as a transplant centre. He then welcomed the MOHAN Foundation team and invited Mr. Bidyananda to continue the programme.
Mr. Bidyananda gave a brief introduction to MOHAN Foundation, its vision, and objectives. He presented an overview of the national organ donation rate, with a special focus on Manipur, and explained the difference between brain death and coma. He further spoke about the provisions of the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, the significance of cornea donation, and the process involved. Emphasizing that organ donation transcends barriers of religion, caste, and creed, he underlined that it is universally recognized as an act of compassion and humanity.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion addressing common myths and misconceptions about organ donation. Mr. Bidyananda provided factual clarifications to dispel fears and doubts, and encouraged participants to pledge their support to the cause.
Nearly 80 individuals attended the session, gaining valuable insights into the life-saving impact of organ donation. Information pamphlets on organ donation were distributed to all participants for further understanding.
