Awareness Session on Organ Donation Conducted by MOHAN Foundation in Collaboration with Mantripukhri UPHC, Imphal-East, Manipur

  • On August 12, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, in collaboration with Mantripukhri Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), Imphal-East, Manipur, conducted an awareness session on organ donation. The session was facilitated by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator (Northeast) cum Project Lead (Manipur), along with Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, and Mrs. Thaudem Mayarani Devi, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation.

     

    The session was organised as part of the immunization programme at the UPHC, with coordination and support from Dr. Suranjoy, Medical Officer, and the support staff.

     

    Mr. Bidyananda opened the programme with an introduction to MOHAN Foundation, its objectives, and vision. He shared updates on the ongoing cornea and kidney transplantation programme in Manipur. Key points discussed during the session included:

     

    • the need for organ donation in society,

    • challenges faced by patients without a donor,

    • the importance of obtaining family consent,

    • the story of the first deceased organ donation in Manipur, and

    • the procedure for pledging to donate organs through the NOTTO (National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation) website.

     

    To reinforce the discussion, Mrs. Mayarani distributed Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on organ donation to all participants.

     

    Nearly 20 participants attended the session and gained valuable insights into the significance of organ donation and its life-saving impact.
