MOHAN Foundation empowers women with knowledge on organ donation on International Women’s Day

  • Traditionally Women’s Day was celebrated to remember those who fought for women’s rights. In recent years it is a day to empower women. MOHAN Foundation used the day to empower NCC girl cadets with the knowledge of organ donation. The event was held on 8th March 2015, at Guru Nanak College from 2 pm to 6 pm. Ms Sunitha, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation helped in organizing the event with Guru Nanak College.

     

    Around hundred girl cadets from different sections of NCC attended the knowledge event.  Ms Shanthini, ANO, Mr. Arun Kumar, Trauma Nursing Technician  and Mr. Jai Pal CHM represented the NCC.  The welcome was given by Mr. Jeyabal M, Transplant Coordinator, followed by a talk by Ms. Kavitha S. Marketing Manager.  Kavitha gave a comprehensive talk on the Concepts of Organ Donation – touching upon who can give, when we can donate and about brain death. She also gave examples of donors which touched the girls’ hearts.

     

    After the session it was time for some fun. There were competitions on the:

    Cadets of Velammal College did a Fashion Show - with a theme of organ donation.  Mr. Avinash a young kidney recipient interacted with the cadets and spoke to them about his life and how he has found a new life after getting his donation.

     

    Nearly all the cadets participated in the activities. The girls had a lot of fun at the same time learnt to put their new knowledge into use and win some prizes.  The judges were Ms. Anu, Ms. Sujatha and Mr. Arun Kumar.  Ms. Anu and Ms. Shanthini gave positive comments on the celebrations.  A counter was set up for the cadets to register as organ donors.  Nearly 30 of them picked a donor card.

     

    Prizes were distributed by Dr. Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee, MOHAN Foundation. He asked the girls to speak to their parents and requested the NCC staff to take it forward to their head office so that every cadets understands the value of organ donation.  Ms. Kavitha thanked the cadets for participating in the celebration.

     

    MOHAN Foundation thanks Ms. Saroj and University Women’s Association for donating some of the prizes, The management of Guru Nanak College  for their support in providing the venue and the NCC wing of Tamil Nadu, Puduchery and Andaman and Nicobar for accepting our invitation.
