On June 24, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, conducted an awareness session on organ donation at the Medicine Out Patient Department (OPD), JNIMS, as part of its ongoing public education and outreach initiatives. The session was led by Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal and he was accompanied by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal.
Mr. Paringanba commenced the session by engaging participants in an interactive discussion to assess their existing understanding and knowledge of organ donation. He subsequently delivered a comprehensive presentation on organ donation, clearly distinguishing between living and deceased donation while explaining the significance of each. He further emphasized the immense value of organ donation by highlighting that a single donor has the potential to save up to eight lives.
Addressing the queries raised by the participants, Mr. Paringanba highlighted the progress of organ donation initiatives in Manipur, with special reference to healthcare institutions in the state where successful transplantation procedures have been conducted. He also explained how hospitals offering transplantation services maintain waiting lists for patients awaiting organ transplants. In addition, he conducted an informative discussion on the legal framework governing organ donation, reiterating that the commercial trade of human organs is a punishable offence under the law.
Concluding the session, Mr. Paringanba explained the process of pledging for organ and tissue donation and provided information regarding the toll-free helpline and the Manipur office contact number for any organ donation-related queries. Informational leaflets were also distributed at the end of the session.
Approximately 30 participants were reached through the awareness session.
