On 9th October, 2013 an awareness session on organ donation and organ transplantation was organized for the staff of Idea Cellular, Chennai. Ms. Kavitha S, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, Chennai represented the Foundation and conducted the session.
Ms. Kavitha in her talk aimed at sensitizing the staff about the importance of organ donation. She covered the following topics: activities of MOHAN Foundation across the country to strengthen the deceased organ donation programme; types of Organ Donation - Live and Deceased; difference between brain death, cardiac death and coma; causes of brain death; the need for organ donation; about cornea donation; importance of consent by next-of-kin for donation to take place; importance of the donor card and about MOHAN Foundation donor card registration.
The session was interactive and few of them raised a few queries such as in case of brain death who should be contacted if one is interested in donating organs, what organs can be donated after death, whether brain transplant is possible and how to register for a donor card.
A total of 20 employees attended the session and all 20 of them picked up the donor card.
