MOHAN Foundation conducted Batch 7 of Ambassadors Training

  • 23 participants attended the second module training of Batch 7 of the Ambassadors program on 19th June 2021. Students from schools and colleges, nurses, general public and members of Scholar Foundation attended the interactions. A student from the US had also joined.  

    The Ambassadors program involves three modules:

    Module 1 – 4-hour learning - Gift of Life Course (online)

    Module 2 – 3-hour virtual interactions with experts, understanding communication techniques and practices of presentations 

    Module 3 - Public awareness activities by the trained Ambassadors 

    In the first segment participants were asked to introduce themselves share what motivated them to become an Ambassador. This was followed by feedback sharing for Module 1 and questions arising from it. Experts answering the queries were Dr. Sunil
    Shroff - Managing Trustee, MOHAN Foundation, Dr. Ramdip Ray - Liver Transplant Surgeon, Kolkata, Ms. Jaya Jairam, Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi, Dr. Hemal Kanvinde and Transplant Coordinators Dr. Bhanu Prakash and Mrs. Kavitha Aneesh of MOHAN Foundation.  

    Discussions were on the ethics of donation, organ allocation systems, need for donation, need and process for counselling, donations from unclaimed bodies, creating awareness in rural areas, opt in and opt out systems of donation followed across the world. 

    The next segment led by Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi was on Gratitude and Communication. The main focus of the workshop was for the participants to understand and appreciate the importance of the second chance at life the recipients have received and the life-saving decisions donor families make when grieving the loss of a loved one. Deep bonds were formed where one participant recalled the loss of his uncle to kidney and liver disease. Letters written by all the participants expressing gratitude, from the perspective of a recipient to the donor family were read out.   

    The modes of communication to spread awareness about organ donation in the community were explained by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde through an illustrative presentation. The participants understood the different ways they can adopt to create awareness. In the next segment Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi gave tips on how to prepare a powerful presentation and effectively present it. She also gave a glimpse of her own presentation. 

    A poll was conducted to identify the most comfortable mode of conducting an awareness the participants prefer. Most of the participants chose to do awareness talks and needed more assistance from MOHAN Foundation to go ahead with their awareness initiatives.
