Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Mankapur Police Station, Godhni, Nagpur

  • On 18th June 2021, MOHAN Foundation in association with Transplants – Help The Poor Foundation was invited by Mrs. Vaijayanti Mandavdhare (SP) of Mankapur Police Station, Godhni, Nagpur for conducting organ donation awareness session & explaining their role in promoting this cause.

     

    Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi introduced MOHAN Foundation's mission and objectives. She asked police officials present during the session that what comes in your mind when they think about organ donation. The responses were mixed positive as well as negative.

     

    Then she explained the concept of organ donation such as types of death (viz. brain death & circulatory death), types of organs and tissues that can be donated after circulatory death as well as after brain death, the concept of brain death. She also explained the difference between brain death and coma. Various myths and facts about organ donation were discussed. Also, Information about organ allocation and distribution were shared. Toll Free Number of MOHAN Foundation was also introduced.

     

    Ms. Prarthana then elaborated on the legal aspects and the actual role of police during organ donation following brain death in a medico-legal case (MLC). She told them that time was of the essence as the organs can be kept functioning only for a short period of time. Therefore, the police should give approval as early as possible so that the donor family does not need to wait for the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the other police station.

     

    Around 52 police staff attended the session. Some queries were asked which was answered promptly by Ms. Prarthana. We thank Mrs. Vaijayanti Mandhavdhare & Mr. Yogesh for inviting us and giving us the opportunity thereby supporting the cause of organ donation.
