On February 24, 2026 – A highly impactful organ donation awareness session was successfully conducted at Zilla Parishad High School, Nagilla. The initiative was led by Project Manager Mr. Venkatesh Kattela under the aegis of MOHAN Foundation, with the objective of spreading awareness about the life-saving importance of organ donation among rural students.
Despite significant transportation challenges, the programme was conducted successfully. The village is situated in a remote mountainous region with minimal transport connectivity, with only one bus serving the area. Overcoming these logistical constraints, engaging awareness sessions were conducted for students of Grades 6 and 10, reaching more than 170 students and faculty members.
The session was interactive, informative, and well received by both students and staff. The students’ curiosity was particularly encouraging. They raised thoughtful and insightful questions, especially regarding brain donation and organ donation in cases of suicide. These sensitive yet important discussions made the session intellectually enriching and reflected the students’ growing awareness and maturity.
The programme covered key topics including:
• Meaning and types of organ donation
• Difference between brain death and cardiac arrest
• Brain donation and its significance
• Legal aspects under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act (THOA), 1994
• Addressing myths and ethical concerns
The enthusiastic participation of students and the supportive attitude of the faculty contributed significantly to the success of the programme. Notably, 8 participants formally pledged their organs.
This successful awareness initiative at Zilla Parishad High School, Nagilla demonstrates that even in geographically remote areas, meaningful conversations can inspire social responsibility and a commitment to saving lives through organ donation.
