  Dr Viritha Krishnamurthy, an organ donation ambassador of MOHAN Foundation delivered an awareness talk on organ donation to an audience of 40 which included her friends and family, on 17^th June 2021. A MBBS graduate, Dr Viritha is currently pursuing her Masters in Public Health at IIPH, Hyderabad. 

  In her 30-minute talk, she covered the following topics:

  • What is organ donation?
  • Types of donors
  • What organs and tissues can be donated
  • The legal aspects of organ donation
  • Difference between brain death and coma
  • Myths and facts related to organ donation
  • The purpose of a donor card
  • Role of MOHAN Foundation 

  She ended her talk with the powerful story of Joe DiMeo, a face and bilateral hand transplant recipient and appealed to the audience to consider pledging their organs and also to spread awareness among their family members. She was guided by experts from the Foundation throughout the session. 

  Though the audience did not react immediately after the talk, Dr Viritha received many calls later with feedback, that the talk was very informative as many of them were unaware of  many aspects of organ donation. A few of them also expressed their interest to register as organ donors and enquired about the process.
