On February 10, 2026 – A highly impactful organ donation awareness session was successfully conducted at Telangana Model School and College, Palamakula. The initiative was led by Project Manager Mr. Venkatesh Kattela under the aegis of MOHAN Foundation, with the objective of strengthening awareness and understanding of organ donation among senior students.
Engaging awareness sessions were conducted for students of Grades 9 and 10 in the school laboratory, reaching over 200 students and faculty members. The session was interactive, informative, and thoughtfully structured to address both medical and ethical aspects of organ donation.
A key highlight of the session was the students’ remarkable curiosity. They raised thoughtful and insightful questions, particularly regarding the diagnosis and certification of brain death. Their interest in understanding the medical criteria and legal process reflected a mature and responsible approach toward the subject, making the discussion highly enriching.
The session comprehensively covered:
• Definition and types of organ donation
• Difference between brain death and cardiac arrest
• Medical criteria for brain death diagnosis
• Organ transplantation procedures
• Legal provisions under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act (THOA), 1994
• Importance of carrying a donor card
• Addressing common myths and misconceptions
I am pleased to report that the programme inspired strong participation and commitment. Notably, 15 participants demonstrated their willingness to donate their organs by displaying their donor cards, serving as motivating examples for their peers.
The successful conduct of this session at Telangana Model School and College, Palamakula once again highlights the importance of continuous awareness efforts in nurturing informed, compassionate, and socially responsible young citizens committed to saving lives through organ donation.
