On February 23, 2026, the MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, conducted an organ donation awareness talk at General Out Patient Department (OPD). The session was conducted by Ms Moirangthem Priya Devi, Program Executive along with Mr Elangbam Paringnaba Singh, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal.
The session commenced with Ms. Priya introducing the team, followed by a comprehensive presentation on organ donation. She explained the two types of organ donation – living and deceased and elaborated on the distinctions between them. Emphasizing the regional context, she highlighted the critical need for deceased organ donation in Manipur. The session also addressed prevalent myths and misconceptions, emphasizing that organ donation is supported by all religions. She further highlighted that, instead of being disposed of through cremation or burial, the human body can play a crucial role in saving and improving lives through organ donation. Additionally, she provided an overview of the transplant services available in Manipur, encompassing facilities offered by both government and private hospitals.
Towards the conclusion of the session, the procedure for taking the organ donation pledge was explained, and participants were encouraged to pledge themselves as organ donors. Informative pamphlets on organ donation were distributed, highlighting the availability of a toll-free helpline and providing comprehensive resources for participants seeking further clarification.
The session was attended by approximately 35 participants, who actively engaged in the discussion, reflecting increased awareness and understanding of the importance of organ donation.
