Awareness Talk on Organ Donation at Senior Citizen Home, Sector 43, Chandigarh

  • On February 25, 2026, MOHAN Foundation–SRDF Chandigarh conducted an awareness session on organ donation at the Senior Citizen Home, Sector 43-A, Chandigarh, following approval from the Child and Women Development Corporation and confirmation from the facility. The Senior Citizen Home is a paid residence, housing retired employees who regularly receive pensions.

    The program was coordinated by Resident Manager Ms. Vandana, who formally welcomed the participants. The session was led by Ms. Preeti Gupta from MF-SRDF, who introduced the organization, its mission, and vision, highlighting organ donation as the ultimate “gift of life.”

    Ms. Gupta explained several important aspects of organ donation:

    • Organ Donation & Its Importance – Why it matters and when transplants are required.
    • Organs and Tissues – Including eyes, skin, and the possibility of whole-body donation.
    • Types of Donors & Death – Distinguishing between living and deceased donors, and clarifying brain death versus cardiac death.
    • Viability of Organs – How long different organs remain suitable for transplantation after retrieval.
    • Legal Framework – Overview of the Transplantation of Human Organs Act.
    • Myths & Misconceptions – Addressing common doubts and fears surrounding donation.

    The session was attended by around 15 residents, who showed keen interest and raised thoughtful questions, particularly about whole-body donation. Misconceptions were clarified, and participants expressed appreciation for the information shared.

    The talk successfully:

    • Educated senior citizens on medical, legal, and ethical aspects of organ donation.
    • Dispelled myths and misconceptions.
    • Fostered a positive outlook toward organ donation as a noble act of giving life.

    Several residents expressed their willingness to pledge for whole-body donation and requested guidance on completing the formalities.
