On February 25, 2026, MOHAN Foundation in association with Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, conducted an organ donation awareness talk at the Eye Out Patient Department (OPD), JNIMS. Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, Program Executive, led the session along with Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation.
The session began with Ms. Priya introducing the team to the participants. She then delivered a detailed overview of organ donation and transplantation, clearly explaining the differences between living and deceased donation. She also discussed the availability of transplantation services in both government and private healthcare facilities across Manipur.
While addressing widespread misconceptions, she emphasized that no religion prohibits or opposes the act of organ donation. She explained that organ donation is widely regarded as an act of compassion and service to humanity. She further noted that, rather than proceeding solely with traditional practices such as cremation or burial, individuals and families have the option to donate organs, thereby offering a renewed chance at life to patients suffering from organ failure. In addition, she clearly stated that the buying and selling of human organs is strictly forbidden, and any such activities are illegal and punishable under existing laws, which are in place to ensure ethical and equitable transplantation practices.
As the session come to an end, Ms. Priya provided a clear explanation of the process for pledging oneself as an organ donor. She guided the participants through the essential steps involved and addressed their queries. Informational pamphlets on organ donation were then distributed to support further awareness and understanding.
Close to 20 individuals attended the session and left with meaningful knowledge and greater awareness about organ donation.
