  • On December 23, 2025, MOHAN Foundation conducted an organ donation awareness session at Project Spectrum, Kwakeithel, as a part of its community mobilisation activity. The session was facilitated by Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, and supported by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal.

The programme was organised in coordination with Mrs. Meikam Pinky Devi, Counsellor, Project Spectrum, whose support ensured the smooth conduct of the session. Project Spectrum, implemented under the Alliance HIV/AIDS and supported by the Elton John AIDS Foundation, aims to support Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and others (LGBTQIA+), with a special focus on ensuring a stigma-free community space and access to support services for transgender individuals.

Mr. Bidyananda began the session by expressing his appreciation for the opportunity. He explained the basic concepts of organ donation and shared information about the organs that can be donated. He clearly differentiated between living organ donation and deceased organ donation, helping participants develop a better understanding of the subject. He emphasized that organs donated by individuals declared brain-dead have the potential to save multiple lives and significantly improve the health and quality of life of patients with end-stage organ failure.

He also clarified the distinction between whole-body donation and organ donation, highlighting the purpose and importance of each. Furthermore, he stressed that buying and selling of organs is illegal and a punishable offence, and addressed common myths and misconceptions surrounding donation. He reassured participants that organ donation does not lead to disfigurement of the deceased and shared that most major religions support organ donation as an act of compassion and service to humanity.

In closing, Mr. Bidyananda encouraged attendees to consider registering as organ donors and to review the informational pamphlets provided at the session. Approximately 30 participants attended the programme and gained valuable insights into the life-saving impact of organ donation.
