Interactive Session on Organ Donation conducted at Kalanjali School of Nursing,Telangana

  • On the occasion of Organ Donation Awareness week on 9thAugust,2022. MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session for the Nursing Students of Kalanjali School of Nursing.The session was organised by Ms. Srividya Subramanian, Project Manager at MOHAN Foundation in coordination with Mrs. Rajeshwari, Staff at Nursing School. Dr. Bhanu Prakash and Ms. Srividya. S were the key resource.

    Kalanjali College of Nursing Educational organisation is a non profitable registered organisation established in the year 2007. It is aimed at promoting and supporting education, training and research activities in the quest of quality health care. Kalanjali College of Nursing have successfully developed number of health professionals and conducted notable clinical and epidemiological research studies for the betterment of human populace.

    Dr. Bhanu Prakash started the session by asking a few introductory questions on Organ Donation and then introduced MOHAN Foundation to the participants and kept the audience engaged throughout the session. The following were discussed in detail:

    • Organ donation and its need in the society
    • When and how does organ donation take place
    • Organs that can be donated during life and after death
    • Transplant waiting list in India
    • Brain death
    • Difference between brain death and coma
    • Role of MOHAN Foundation
    • Eye donation

    Ms. Srividya.S spoke about the future of Organ Donation in India and gave a detailed session on grief counselling and asked a few interesting questions to the participants and also explained the importance of family consent in Organ Donation.

    Over all the session was very interactive where participants enthusiastically contributed to the discussion and asked many queries. To name a few: 

    • Can we donate organs after a dog-bite
    • How do Kidney Transplants occur?
    • Ways to promote Organ Donation at rural areas

    Dr. Bhanu Prakash and Ms. Srividya.S motivated the students to pledge to donate organs and explained the importance of a donor card.

    Close to 70 students attended the session put of which 60 students pledged to donate organs.
