College teachers understand the Concepts of Organ Donation during training at Nagpur.

  • Dr. Ravi Wankhede Nagpur Centre Head of MOHAN Foundation gave an audio-visual talk on Organ donation and Transplantation at the Administrative Staff Centre of Nagpur University on 14th February 2015. The Centre provides for talks on extra-curricular subjects of social interest for college teachers by leaders in various fields and subjects. This was the second time a talk was held in the Centre. At the outset Dr. Rekha Sharma Director of the Centre introduced Dr. Ravi Wankhede.

     

    Dr. Wankhede gave elaborate information on the need and importance of organ donation in the country. He informed the audience that lakhs of people die every year for want of life saving organs like kidneys, liver, heart apart from the requirement of eyes and skin​. He informed that such patients could be helped if organs could be harvested from people who have been declared 'brain dead'. He said this was a routine practice in the developed world. In our country most of us are not aware and hence the rate of organ donation is negligible except in places like Chennai, Hyderabad, etc.

     

    He stressed the need to be aware and hence the work of MOHAN Foundation which is carrying out this work. He informed the audience that all religions advocate  helping others in need- organ donation. He said as a matter of fact, that organ donation is the highest act of sacrifice and hence a service to God.

     

    At the end there were was a lively discussion and many questions which were answered to their satisfaction.  88 teachers attended the talk. 18 picked up the pledge forms. Dr. Rekha Sharma proposed a vote of thanks and informed Dr. Wankhede that all batches of the trainees will be exposed to the subject henceforth.
