Awareness talk on Organ Donation conducted at Indrayani Hospital Dialysis Unit Nagpur

  • On 1st July 2021, MOHAN Foundation in association with Transplants – Help The Poor Foundation conducted an awareness talk on organ donation at the occasion of Doctors Day at Indrayani Hospital Dialysis Unit held in Lendra Park, Canal Road, Nagpur. The session began around 11:30 am was attended by Nursing and hospital staff.

    Ms Prarthana Dwivedi introduced MOHAN Foundation, its Mission, Vision and Objectives. She sensitized the members about the concepts of organ donation, why, who and when is it done. She also explained the types of death viz. Cardiac and Brain Death. He explained the organs and tissues that can be donated in both types of Death. She elaborated the procedure about bone donation which was new topic for gatherers. She also described that tissue donation (skin & eyes) can happen even at home which caught attention of the crowd and everybody started asking queries related to tissue donation which were answered promptly. She also discussed about Organ Donations that can happen in case of Brain Dead case and number of lives that can be saved by giving the examples of successful transplant stories articles and news about Green Corridor which was somewhat familiar to the crowd.

    Ms. Prarthana addressed about the myths about Organ Donation public has & how we can debunk them by illustrating the real facts about Organ Donation.

    "How transparent is the organ allocation to the persons on waiting list", "Are transplant services available in government hospitals?" were a few of the many queries raised during the session.  Ms. Prarthana was able to solve all the queries promptly.

    About 42 peoples included doctors attended the session. Around 10 pledges were taken and few were taken online. We thank Dr Aarti Dharaskar of Indrayani Hospital Dialysis Unit for inviting us and supporting the cause of Organ Donation.
