On May 08, 2025, Nukkad Natak program on “Organ Donation” was held at Triveni Ghat, Rishikesh. Organized by MOHAN Foundation in collaboration with the Rotary Club Rishikeh Divas & Seema Dental Hospital & Institute (SDHI), the event aimed to educate the public on the significance of organ donation.
Triveni Ghat, located on the banks of the holy Ganga in Rishikesh, is a revered spiritual and cultural hub that attracts thousands of devotees, tourists, and locals daily. Known for its iconic Ganga Aarti and vibrant atmosphere, the ghat serves as a confluence of tradition, faith, and community engagement, making it an ideal location for public awareness programs aimed at creating meaningful impact.
The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Kalpna, Assistant Professor at SDHI, Rishikesh. She highlighted the critical role organ donation plays in saving lives and emphasized how donated organs offer hope and a second chance to patients suffering from end-stage organ failure.
A street play (nukkad natak) on organ donation was performed by third year students of Seema Dental Hospital & Institute, in collaboration with the MOHAN Foundation & Rotary Club Rishikesh Divas. The play effectively engaged Local visitors, Tourists, security personnel, and volunteers. Through powerful storytelling and emotional appeal, the play conveyed key messages about the need and process of organ donation.
Dialogues from the Nukkad Natak in the local language:
• “Marta hai shareer, amar hai aatma;
Angdaan se milta hai swayam Parmatma”
“The body may die, but the soul is eternal;
Through organ donation, one attains the divine eternal.”
• “Angdaan hai jeevan ka daan;
Yehi toh hai insaan ki pehchaan.”
“Organ donation is the gift of life;
It defines the best of human strife.”
The dialogues, filled with emotion and conviction, helped dispel myths, encouraged critical thinking, and inspired action among the audience.
The session also included an interactive Q&A, where attendees actively participated and raised various queries, which were addressed by Mr. Sanchit Arora:
• Which organs can be donated to a near relative while alive?
• How long does it take for the liver to fully regenerate after donation?
• How long after death can eye donation be performed, and what are the required formalities?
• What is the procedure for someone in need of an organ transplant?
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Tanu Jain, President, Rotary Club Rishikesh Divas acknowledging the efforts of the students of Seema Dental Hospital & Institute, MOHAN Foundation, and all attendees. A group photo session with participants of the nukkad natak marked the event’s conclusion.
Approximately 400 participants attended the program. Notably, 23 students registered for organ donation on the NOTTO website following the event.
