Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Hindustan National Glass & Industries Pvt. Ltd., Rishikesh

  • On May 9, 2025, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation at Hindustan National Glass & Industries Pvt. Ltd. (HNG), Rishikesh. The session was organized following an invitation from Mr. Vivek Talwar, Plant Head, and Mr. G.S. Payal, Occupational Health Officer at HNG Industries, Rishikesh, Uttarakhand.

     

    Hindustan National Glass & Industries is a fully automated glass manufacturing company offering complete packaging solutions to enhance productivity and performance at the customer’s end. The company has manufacturing units located in Rishra, Bahadurgarh, Rishikesh, Neemrana, Sinnar, Naidupeta, and Puducherry.

     

    The session was conducted by Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Leader at MOHAN Foundation, stationed at AIIMS Rishikesh. It was attended by officer-rank staff of HNG Industries.

     

    Mr. Arora began the session by engaging participants in a discussion about their current understanding of organ donation. He then delivered a comprehensive presentation covering the following key topics:

    • What is organ donation, and why is it important?

    • Eligibility to become an organ donor

    • Differences between live and deceased donation

    • Organ donation during life and after death

    • Understanding brain death

    • Distinction between coma and brain death

    • Eye donation and guidelines for preserving corneas after death

    • Key provisions of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994

    • Role of MOHAN Foundation in promoting organ donation

    • How individuals can contribute to this noble cause

    • Dispelling myths and presenting facts about organ donation

     

    The session was highly interactive, with participants actively engaging in the discussion and raising thoughtful questions. Some of the queries included:

    • How are organs allocated by government and private hospitals?

    • Why are more individuals from the Muslim community on the organ waiting list and fewer among those pledging to donate?

    • How long does it take for the liver to regenerate?

    • What costs are incurred by the recipient’s family in the case of a deceased donor liver transplant?

    • Is there a facility for deceased organ donation at AIIMS Rishikesh?

    • How can one register to receive an organ at AIIMS Rishikesh?

    • How long after death can skin be donated?

    • How much time does the skin donation procedure take?

     

    By addressing these questions and clarifying misconceptions, the session aimed to inspire participants to become advocates for organ donation within their communities and workplace.

     

    Approximately 15 participants attended the session, and many expressed a willingness to pledge for organ donation after discussing it with their families.
