Awareness Talk on Organ Donation for NCC cadets at NCC Academy, Perurani, Thoothukudi

  • On 17th June, 2017, MOHAN Foundation was invited by the Commandant, Col. Vetrivel 29 (TN) INDEP COY NCC, Thoothukudi and 3 (TN) Naval unit NCC, Thoothukudi to conduct an awareness talk for their N.C.C. Cadets and SD/SW & JD/JW (AW) at NCC Academy, at Perurani. The group of Cadets were from Thoothukudi schools & colleges. The cadets were very much aware about Organ Donation. Around 421 cadets and 10 ANOs participated in the program.

     

    The audience was given an introduction by Commandant, Col. Vetrivel and presentation on Organ Donation and Brain Death by Mr. S. Venkatesh Transplant Coordinator, Govt.Rajaji Hospital, Madurai. In his talk he explained all aspects of Organ Donation & Transplantation, Types of Donors, Organ donation statistics in India, Brain Death and its causes, difference between brain death & coma, myths & misconceptions on organ donation, value of the donor card, MOHAN Foundation’s mission & vision.  This session took place for more than 3 hours with more interaction with students and ANOs.  The session was more of a discussion on brain death, lack of information in hospitals, registries for patients and the whole coordination concept. At the end he shared donor stories.               

     

    A quiz about organ donation was conducted by Mr. S.Venkatesh during the programme. It was indeed an amazing session. Cadets & ANOs were given Information Brochures and Donor cards. 38 Donor cards were picked up.

     

    At the end of the session Commandant, Col. Vetrivel requested the cadets that all should pledge their organs and talk to their family, friends and teachers about this noble cause.
