On February 27, MOHAN Foundation–SRDF Chandigarh organized an awareness talk on organ and tissue donation at the Old Age Home, Sector 15, Chandigarh. The initiative aimed to sensitize senior citizens about the importance of organ donation, dispel misconceptions, and encourage them to view donation as a noble act of giving life.
The Old Age Home in Sector 15 provides shelter and care to destitute senior citizens who have been abandoned by their families. The facility ensures dignity and support to residents who often lack emotional and social connections.
Resident Manager Mr. Dinesh Dixit and staff of the Old Age Home coordinated arrangements and encouraged resident participation. Ms. Preeti Gupta, representative of MF-SRDF, introduced the organization’s mission and vision, emphasizing organ donation as the ultimate “gift of life.”
The key topic covered in the session as following:
Why organ donation matters and how it saves lives
Organs and tissues that can be donated (eyes, skin, vital organs, whole-body donation)
The difference between brain death and cardiac death
How long organs remain viable for transplantation
Common myths and fears about donation
About 12 residents attended. They listened with interest, asked questions — especially about whole-body donation — and shared their thoughts. Misconceptions were cleared, and many appreciated the information. Some even expressed their willingness to pledge for whole-body donation and asked for guidance on how to do it.
The session helped residents understand the medical, legal, and ethical sides of organ donation. It gave them hope and respect, showing that they could still make a difference to society even after their lifetime.
MF-SRDF expressed gratitude to the management and staff of the Old Age Home for their support in making this meaningful program possible.
