Awareness Session on Organ Donation for Students of Jain University

  • MOHAN Foundation, in collaboration with Jeevasarthakathe, had approached Jain University to conduct an awareness session on Organ Donation and Transplantation for the MCA students of the college in Bangalore. The MOHAN Foundation Bangalore team worked with staff members of Jain University and decided to conduct a one-hour interactive session for the students. Mrs. Uma Rani, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science was the key support in organizing this session.

    The session took place on 12th September 2019 from 12 PM to 2 PM and around 100 students with 3 faculty members were sensitized about organ donation and transplantation. MOHAN Foundation was represented by Mrs. Ranjini Shankar M S, Project Manager and Transplant Coordinators Ms. Hemavathi, Mr. Marulappa, and Mr. Susai Antony Raj S.

    Mr. Susai initiated the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation to the audience. He explained the Foundation’s work and the role of transplant coordinators. He also orientated the students about the concepts of organ donation, types of organ donation, organs and tissues that can be donated. Mrs. Ranjini carried forward the session by talking about brain death, causes of brain death, brain death declaration, time factor, process of organ donation and transplantation and also explained about Jeevasarthakathe and the legal procedure for transplantation. A short film ‘Phir Zindagi’ on the subject of organ donation was screened for the audience as the session concluded.
