Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Eye OPD, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences

  • On December 3, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, in association with Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, Imphal East, Manipur, conducted an awareness session on organ donation at the Eye Out-Patient Department (OPD) as part of the ongoing public education initiative.

     

    The session was coordinated by Dr. Arun, Senior Resident, Department of Ophthalmology, JNIMS, and facilitated by Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, along with Mr. Victor Rajkumar and Ms. Moirangthem Priya, Program Executives, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal.

     

    Mr. Bidyananda explained the different types of organs that can be donated and clarified the distinction between living and deceased donation. He highlighted the significance of deceased organ donation and reassured attendees that corneas can be retrieved after death without causing any disfigurement, addressing a common concern among families. He also encouraged participants to consider registering as organ donors and emphasized the importance of communicating their decision to their families.

     

    Questions regarding cornea donation at home were addressed during the interactive segment of the session. To reinforce the key messages, informational pamphlets were distributed.

     

    Approximately 15 participants took part and gained valuable insights into organ donation and its transformative impact.
