  • On 12th October 2019, MOHAN Foundation conducted a volunteering training workshop for social workers and personnel working in the field of transplant. The Angel of Change workshop started at 10am in the morning with an introduction of all the participants.

Mrs Jaya Jairam started the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision and philanthropy. She then familiarized participants about the workshop they are going to attend and discussed what expectancy of students is in this particular cause of organ donation. Also she informed the ways participants can collaborate to support this noble cause of organ donation.

Mrs Jaya Jairam also took the second session of Mind Mapping Activity and told students to discuss all the positive and negative thoughts coming to their mind related to organ donation. Through this activity the doubts in students just popped out in simple manner & they could also share the things which they usually hesitate to ask. She then explained about the concepts of Organ and tissue donation. She explained the types of death viz. Cardiac and Brain Death and the organs and tissues that can be donated. She elaborated the procedure about bone donation which was a new topic for the gathering. She also discussed about Organ Donations that can happen when a person is declared Brain Dead and the number of lives that can be saved by giving the examples of successful transplant stories and news about green corridor which was somewhat familiar to the group.

Next session was held by Dr Jimmy discussing about the medical tests required for identification & certification of a brain dead patient.

Then Mrs Jaya Jairam discussed about the religious barrier and myths related to organ donation. As the gathering got aware about the whole process of organ donation we proceeded towards the activity of writing a thank you letter to the donor family keeping in mind the emotions felt by recipients when they receive an organ & live their second life. Many participants participated in this activity and wrote very heart touching letters which were narrated later. Also they were invited to speak about the whole process of organ donation & feedback about the workshop. About 20 participants attended the workshop & about 8 pledged and few decided to take the online pledge.

We thank all the participants including Mrs Seema Bose (Social Street) for inviting us and giving us the opportunity to conduct an ‘ANGELS OF CHANGE’ Workshop on organ donation.
