Organ Donation Awareness at the In-service Police Training Centre, Villupuram

  • MOHAN Foundation was invited by the In-service Police Training Centre in Villupuram to conduct an organ donation awareness programme on 29th October 2019. Recently promoted Inspectors and the Sub Inspectors were the audience and Ms. Sujatha Suriyamoorthi, Manager – Information Systems and Mr. Siva Shankar, Marketing Coordinator from the Foundation were the speakers.

    Mr. Siva Shankar started the session by explaining the basics of organ donation. He explained the following in detail:

    • Organ donation and its need in the society
    • When and how does organ donation take place
    • Transplants performed so far in Tamil Nadu and Government transplant waitlist
    • Meaning of death and law on death
    • Transplant Law
    • Organs that can be donated during life and after death

    Ms Sujatha Suriyamoorthi then explained the role of police in organ donation. She elaborated on the following points:

    • What do the police have to in an organ donation case?
    • When does the involvement of police begin during an organ donation case in a hospital?
    • The forms that are given by the transplant coordinator to the officials to be filled and submitted

    The session went on for 2 hours and was attended by 15 police officials. MOHAN Foundation thanks the Police Training College, Chennai and In-service Training Centre, Coimbatore for helping to spread the word.
