  • On 7th March 2012, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Social Work students of Madras Christian College, Tambaram to deliver a talk on Organ Donation. Ms.Jessi, Transplant Coordinator, explained the concepts of organ donation, the incidence of organ failure and organ transplantation. Nearly 120 students participated in the session and asked a lot of questions. Some of the questions raised by them were:

    1.      What is Apnoea test?

    2.      Will there be disfigurement of the body after donation?

    3.      Is brain death the same as coma?

When Ms.Jessi shared the story of a young deceased organ donor, two-year-old Jyotirmai, the students were deeply moved. Jyotirmai became brain dead after she drowned in a water tank in June 2010 in Hyderabad. Her parents even in the midst of their deep grief agreed to donate the kidneys and eyes of their beloved child after they were counseled by MOHAN Foundation’s Grief counsellors. Their magnanimous gesture saved the lives of three patients.

Ms.Janice, Faculty with the Social Work Department lauded MOHAN Foundation for the work that they were rendering to society. All the students picked up the “Donor Card” and expressed their support for the cause of Organ Donation.

Ms. Remya, Medical Sociology student at Loyola College, coordinated the awareness talk.
