Tagore Dental College, Rathinamangalam invited MOHAN Foundation to address their students. The event was organized by the interns on 20th October 2015 at Conference Hall in their college premises. The event was coordinated by Dr. Raj Thilak.
Dr. Hemal Kanvinde Quality Assurance Manager, Mr. Prakash K. and Ms. Gieetha Transplant Coordinators, represented MOHAN Foundation. The programme started with lighting lamp. Dr. S. Balagopal, Vice principal welcome the staff of MOHAN Foundation and the students Dr. Hemal Kanvinde spoke on the concepts of organ donation – specifically on need for organ donation; types of organ donation; what organs and tissues that can be donated; when can organ donation take place; about brain death, myths about organ donation and about the importance of signing the donor card.
Two videos were screened to explain brain death and to explain the clinical tests and the confirmatory tests. Real life stories were given as examples and inspired the students to support the cause. Mr. Prakash explained about the protocol followed in RGGGH and the role of coordinators in a deceased donation.
The discussion was on the clinical testing for brain death, time taken for a case to be finis and the organ allocation criteria.
Dr. Chitraa R. Chandran, MDS Principal Tagore Dental College, pledged and received a donor card from Dr. Hemal Kanvinde. A total of 200 students participated in the session. A total of 150 students pledged their organs and promised to carry their signed donor cards. The interns has designed a signature board and many came forward to sign on the board. The students also expressed their interest in volunteering to spread awareness about organ donation.
