Students of Karpagam University learn about organ donation from MOHAN Foundation

  • On 16 November 2013, the Life Sciences Department led by Dr. M. Palaniswamy invited MOHAN Foundation to give a talk about organ donation to the students of the university. Karpagam University, Coimbatore was established in 2008 and was earlier a college of Arts and Science. 

     

    The session started at 11.00 am. The Vice Chancellor, Dr. M. Balasubramanian introduced the subject and invited Dr. Hemal Kanvinde of MOHAN Foundation to elaborate. The Registrar Dr. P. Lakshmanaperumalsamy was also present at the talk. Dr V. Gopalakrishnan, Head Department of Biochemistry made the local arrangements. 

     

    The students were shown a short movie on organ donation. After the movie screening Dr. Hemal spoke on myths related to organ donation, brain death, the process  of donation and the importance of a donor card. During the interaction students and staff clarified doubts about age and organ donation and about  organ allocation. 

     

    There were about 30 students and staff of the Departments of Commerce, Microbiology and Biochemistry present at the talk. 23 students picked up donor cards and registered as donors.
