  • MOHAN Foundation conducted a sensitization program for the doctors and nursing staff of ESI Hospital on 28th July 2025 at 1:00 PM. Representing MOHAN Foundation were Mrs. Ranjini Shankar MS and Mr. Nagendra Kumar R.

The session was initiated by Mrs. Ranjini Shankar, who introduced the mission and vision of MOHAN Foundation. She provided an in-depth overview of organ and tissue donation, explaining the different types of death—cardiac death and brain death. Clinical aspects of brain death declaration were discussed in detail, including the Apnoea Test, Corneal Reflex Test (no eye movement upon touching the eye surface), Oculocephalic Reflex Test (no eye movement when the head is moved), and the Oculovestibular Reflex Test (no eye response when ice water is introduced into the ear).

She then elaborated on the procedures involved in deceased and live organ donation, with a particular focus on eye and skin donation. The session addressed the barriers to organ donation, including prevalent myths and misconceptions, and emphasized the importance of public awareness in dispelling these misunderstandings.

Mrs. Ranjini also discussed the significance of the donor card and explained how individuals can pledge to become organ donors. She highlighted the internship and volunteering opportunities available through MOHAN Foundation for those who wish to contribute to this life-saving cause.

The session further underscored the importance of proper coordination among the healthcare team and family members when a potential brain-dead donor is identified, emphasizing adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Information about the Organ Donation Helpline (1800 103 7100) was shared with the participants.

Approximately 45 participants attended the session, and all of them took donor cards and pledged to donate their organs.

MOHAN Foundation expresses its heartfelt gratitude to ESI Hospital, Bengaluru, for its continued support in promoting organ donation.
