  • On 11th June 2021, MOHAN Foundation in association with Transplants – Help The Poor Foundation conducted an Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Avanti Hospital Dhantoli, Nagpur. It was organized by Dr Priyatish Gajbhiye - Manager Operations & Quality and was conducted by Ms Prarthana Dwivedi (Transplant Coordinator) for sensitization of Critical Care Unit, Nursing staff, Quality Manager and Administration Staff of the hospital.

Ms Prarthana explained the history of organ donation, the process of organ and tissue donation while living and after death as per the THO Act 1994. She gave brief information about MOHAN Foundation and its activities and explained the roles of NOTTO, ROTTO, SOTTO and ZTCC.

She introduced MOHAN Foundation as an NGO working passionately for deceased organ donation past 23 years. She then gave information about living and deceased donors (circulatory death and brain death), brain death and its causes and how a brain dead person can save the lives of 8 others by donating his/her organs and improve the lives of as many as 50 people by donating tissues.

Ms Prarthana mentioned that while organ donation is very common in developed countries, very few people in India donate organs as they are not aware of the subject. MOHAN Foundation has been spreading awareness through its various centres in the country.

At the end of the talk pamphlets were distributed. Around 25 participants were present.

    Questions asked by the audience:

    1) Protocol of Body donation?

    2) How to motivate donor families?

MOHAN Foundation and Transplants – Help The Poor Foundation would like to thank Avanti Hospital and Dr Priyatish Gajbhiye for inviting us and supporting the cause of Organ Donation.
